(They really knew how to walk it out!)

"Wow!  What a fabulous performance!  No Hate But Harmony truly touched our students and energized the entire Scofield community.  We were rockin' all day long!  Thank you so much.  Thank you for your courage and commitment to show the impact and damaging effects of bullying and hatred.  We do believe that through this program our students will feel empowered and strive to act honorably by helping those victimized.  The show was so dynamic, and I felt privileged to see it twice.  Bravo and kudos to all."-Donna M. Gardner; Scofield Magnet Middle School Assistant Principal

"I cannot express how I felt about your presentation today.  The courage that you possess is a kind that not many people can.  Your program helped me realize how bullying can be dealt with.  I also found your dance program and life story very interesting.  Not many people can go through what you did and come out a star.  You are a role model to kids and adults everywhere.  Whether they are being bullied, have been bullied or are a bully.  You have given them the courage to do what's right and I thank you very much for that."-Henry Burbank, Scofield Magnet Middle School

Working to make honor an epidemic!

Stamford Performing Arts Center’s

 “No Hate But Harmony”
(Founding Director Jimmy Locust)

No Hate But Harmony is a show performed by teenage
students for elementary and middle schools to show the
impact and damaging  effects of bullying and acts of
hatred on others through the art forms of acting and
dancing.  No Hate But Harmony gives the audience a
firsthand look at the effects of these intimidating acts.  No
Hate But Harmony also shows how you can play a role in
helping to resolve this type of conflict merely by speaking
up and coming to the aid of the victim.

In the show you will see vignettes of the most popular
forms of bullying tactics and how they are avoided or
resolved through tolerance and education. Dance
numbers to popular hip hop songs add an element of fun
to this uplifting event. The great thing about No Hate But
Harmony is that the audience will see how  responding
honorably can be empowering. The show ends with a fun
interactive dance number during which some of the
audience members get the opportunity to join the cast on
stage and learn dance steps as well as perform with the
cast. This will surely get the crowd excited as they
 support their fellow schoolmates.

Jimmy Locust, an African-American who stands 4’ 9”,
founded  No Hate but Harmony, having dealt with
bullying firsthand during his early lifetime. Now an adult,
he opens the show by talking to the audience about his
experiences and sharing how standing firm and keeping
his head up through these  difficulties ultimately paid off.
Jimmy was “discovered” by Paula Abdul and  put to
work in the videos, films and projects she choreographed,
thus  launching his career and opening many professional
doors for him.  He has  since worked with Janet Jackson,
Michael Jackson, Debbie Allen and Quincy  Jones.
Jimmy has also performed on such televised events as
The 64th and  65th Academy Awards, The Grammy’s
and the 1995 MTV Awards.  Now a  artistic director of
his own school in Stamford, CT, choreographer, master
teacher and playwright, he is eager to help children by
showing them that  there is room for all of us in this
world and that being different is “okay.”

The cast made such an impact on the students that they thanked them in writing!  Below are a few of the letters written by T.O.R students.

I really enjoyed your show.  Not only was it informing, but it was cool and very interesting.  Thank you so much for taking time to teach us about bullying and keeping kids off drugs.  Your show was probably the most interesting thing we'll see all year.  The entire school and I enjoyed it so much.  I hope you come back.  It was so much fun! - Aurora Owens

Thank you for coming to our school.  Your performance was amazing.  I think that it made people have second thoughts about bullying another person.  I really liked the dancers and the skits.  They were very entertaining.  I hope that the skits made people see that bullying is wrong, and not to do drugs.  Thanks again. - Ariel Kobliner

I loved your performance.  I appreciate that you came.  I think that more people should take this more seriously because it's very important to know why not to (bully and do drugs).  Tell the dancers and the actors that they were great. - Emily Beresford

Thanks for showing us the dance and for talking about bullying and drugs.  I was bullied once because of my religion.  I felt that way (singled out), and I'm glad that other people know how it feels now that you did that skit.  Thank you for coming and dancing. - Hayley Siegel

Thank you for coming to T.O.R. to help us celebrate Red Ribbon Week.  Red Ribbon Week is very important and not many people realize it.  I think your performance really helped and now I think people feel differently about it.  I really think you should continue to go around putting on this performance because if people don't know this information about bullying kids, they wouldn't tell anyone and it will not stop.  I know that a lot of people are aware of bullying because I'm short, but people don't make fun of me.  I am called "shorty" because it's like my nickname from elementary school (I wanted the nickname.)  Kids from other elementary schools who go to T.O.R are like, "don't call her that," but then I explain with my friends that it has just been my nickname for a long time.  I think you have a great group of dancers! - Hannah Gilpatrick

Thank you for coming to T.O.R and sharing your dances with us.  I also thank you for sharing your skits for bullying.  To tell you the truth, I'm bullied a lot too.  Girls are cruel and spread a lot of rumors about me, I guess it's not as much as you were bullied but it still hurts.  Your skits really spoke to me and I enjoyed that they were true.  I dance too, in musical theater, and your dances were so good.  Again, thank you for coming to my school for Red Ribbon Week! - Zoe DePreta

I really enjoyed your program especially when you were dancing because you are a very good dancer.  Your dancers and actors were very good and made the skit feel like a movie.  They explained a lot and influenced me and others to not bully other kids because they look or think differently.  You and everyone in your group taught us three essential in bullying and taught us how not to bully in those ways, which eliminates lots of bullying in Turn of River.  It also is very encouraging that you do all of this for free.  Thank you very much and I hope your message goes all around America so bullying will stop one bit at a time. - T.J. Birkett

Thank you so much for coming to our school to perform with the theme of Red Ribbon Week and no-bullying with your touching story, as well as many others.  I will truly try to never bully, and I pledge to be drug-free.  You taught how much words hurt and why you should never say them.  You are also a very good dancer/choreographer.  Whenever you perform at a theatre or school, I will be there cheering you on. - Samantha McNichols

I enjoyed your program that you and your specialized team of actors/dancers presented during first period on October 23, 2006.  I agree that it is important to prevent and soon eradicate these epidemics of taking drugs and bullying, and I am excited that many people are working to do this like you.  In your presentation, I was (appreciative) that you used the experiences of real people to get your point through to other real people like us.  In addition, your choreography of those scenes lured us into your acts.  So, thank you for giving us this wonderful program. - Freddy Bonilla

Sunday, January 8, 2006: Jimmy Locust was featured on the front page of The Stamford Times regarding the auditions for No Hate But Harmony.  Reporter A.J. O'Connell writes, "He intends to end bullying through entertainment, including skits depicting the less savory social rites of school, such as harassment, emotional torture and physical abuse, which he mixes with choreographed dances and popular songs to appeal to younger students."

Testimonials:
"The overall performance of the show was excellent.  No Hate but Harmony presented a wonderful message on bullying for students and teachers to see and hear.  The skits and the dancing were educational, inspiring, and entertaining!"
- Sharlene Cameron, Director of Programs for Diversity, Greenwich Country Day School, Greenwich, CT

"Thank you so much for your time and talent.  Having the No Hate But Harmony troupe here at Dolan Middle School has really made an impact.  You have a special gift.  Dolan thanks you for sharing it with our students." - Charmaine Tourse, Principal, Dolan Middle School, Stamford, CT
