Stamford Performing Arts Center Competition Dance team. (Under review for the 2010-2011 Season) The intention for the Competition Dance Team is simple: to provide dancers with opportunities beyond the four walls of their studio, to inspire, to motivate, to challenge, and to enrich. "Competition" is not just about winning, winning is the least important thing. It is about inspiring and striving to be the best you can be and about sharing your passion. Providing their dancers with a well-rounded education, the Competition Dancers take classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and modern. Competing in various styles of dance, the team has traveled extensively throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. CDT has received awards for: Most Original Choreography, Entertainment, Best Overall Performance, as well as several First Place Soloists. Our Future: Many of our dancers will go on to dance in college, while others have aspirations of Broadway. Regardless of the final destination, it is our hope that our dancers walk away having had an enriching experience with strong tools to take with them and use along the way. 2009 2010 RULES AND REGULATIONS All dancers are required to wear the proper class attire. Please refer to the SPAC website. Attendance: All dancers will be allowed a maximum of 3 absences per trimester in all required classes. Any additional amount of absences will require a doctor’s note. If a dancer is injured they are still required to attend class. If a dancer must miss class due to a mandatory school function, religious holiday etc. they must notify their teacher. Any additional absences, pending illness and school, may result in dismissal from the Team. Note: Classes and rehearsals missed while working on a piece of choreography may result in a dancer being omitted from that part of the choreography or the routine entirely. This is at the discretion of each individual choreographer. All dancers are responsible for their costumes, shoes, tights, props etc.We will not alter the appearance of any number because a dancer hasforgotten their shoes, gloves etc. They will not be permitted to perform or compete. All dancers are required to attend class the week of a competition. If a dancer misses class the week of a competition they may not be allowed to perform with their group. This rule applies to solo’s as well as all additional outside rehearsals. Entry Fees: All entry fees are due by the scheduled date. If arrangements for payment need to be made they should be made in advance of any scheduled due date. It is important that all SPAC Competition Dance Team members conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. Dancers are not only representing their team but SPAC as well. Behavior: Dancers are expected to maintain a positive and respectful attitude towards all individuals they are competing with. At no time is any dancer to demonstrate or reciprocate any form of negative behavior. Set the standard don’t follow it. (This applies to all CDT family members and friends as well) If a situation occurs immediately inform a Teacher/Director and it will be dealt with. Attitude/Sportsmanship: All dancers are required to attend and remain for the duration of awards. At no point in time is any dancer permitted to leave an awards ceremony because they are not pleased with the result. At no time is a parent or dancer to approach a Competition official or judge. If an incident occurs that needs handling please bring it to the attention of a Teacher/Director and he/she will handle it. This is not just a request from SPAC Management and CDT Directors; it is something that is specified in competition rules. Year End Performance (YEP) Each Competition Choreography class will have the opportunity to perform their routines. (Note: these numbers will most likely appear in different shows) Solos/Duets Overall placement is required for a dancer to perform their solo/duet in the SPAC YEP. Additionally all dancers choosing to perform a solo for the 2000-2010 season are required to fulfill rehearsal time of 30 min per week (minimum) once the choreography is complete. One or two hours the week of a competition is not enough. Please continue to check in and refer to the Competition link at www.stamfordperformingarts.com for more information.
